We all deserve a vacation now that summer is here. Here’s how to utilize artificial intelligence to save a little extra cash for your trip.
Looking for advice on how to save for a trip? AI may be useful.
Now that summer is here, I’m eager to relax and take some time off. If you haven’t already, it’s time to start saving and preparing, whether you’re considering vacationing for Labor Day or the Fourth of July. I’d like to visit Québec City and Montreal this year. I looked to artificial intelligence for recommendations on how to save money for my next trip in order to accomplish these aims.
Given my usually positive experiences using ChatGPT as an AI “coach” in other areas of my life, I decided to utilize it to assist with budgeting for this trip. However, it’s best to utilize it for more straightforward, broad guidance rather than as a sophisticated financial advising tool.
Where to go, when to go, and how to locate the greatest bargains and reasonably priced alternatives for your budget are just a few of the things you may ask if you’re utilizing Chat GPT to help plan your trip.
It’s time for adventure, AI.
Get your first prompt ready.
You must provide ChatGPT with as much information as you can, such as your objectives, dates, and precise specifications, in order for it to provide wise savings recommendations. You should specifically include the location, duration, intended spending limit, and some details about your present financial status.
You may take the last three months’ worth of your spending activity from a financial monitoring app and import it into ChatGPT. Otherwise, this could be a good time to begin creating a personal budget.
Here are several budgeting applications to think about, professional savings advice from CNET on how to maintain your savings goals, and some common mistakes people make when saving money.

As an alternative, you could put the last 30 days of your financial activity into a spreadsheet and categorize it, albeit this would take more manual effort than using a budgeting program.
Due to security concerns, you should always exercise caution when disclosing private or sensitive financial information to AI technologies. For this example, I’m using estimations so that ChatGPT doesn’t know too much about my finances.
In response to my initial suggestion, I informed Chat GPT that I intended to spend a week in Montreal and Québec City and that I anticipated the trip costing about $3,000. I also discussed my monthly take-home salary, annual income after taxes, monthly costs such as food, rent, dining out, yoga classes, and subscriptions, and how much I save and invest each month, which leaves me with around $1,200 each month to spend on the trip. Don’t forget to include your credit card minimum payment and any other debt you need to pay off each month.
I learned a number of money-saving techniques from ChatGPT, such as cutting back on eating out and ordering in, spending less on groceries, putting off my yoga sessions while I save for this goal, temporarily canceling my subscriptions, and restricting impulsive purchases. Here are some suggestions it made:
NET However, keep in mind that Chat GPT’s statistics are often incorrect, so make sure to verify them all again. Don’t rely on Chat GPT for financial advice; instead, use it as a starting point.
Give your prompts greater specificity.
Asking Chat GPT what kinds of meals you spend the most money on (and attempting to prepare them at home instead) or submitting all of your meal receipts can provide you with even more detailed suggestions.
After your vacation is done, you may also store all of your receipts, import them into ChatGPT, and identify spending patterns to account for on subsequent travels.
Request advice on how to travel.
In addition, I wanted to hear whether Chat GPT had any helpful advice for summertime travel to Montreal or Quebec City. Although the advice was quite general and included things like making reservations in advance and staying away from tourist traps, it did recommend looking into Passeport MTL for cheaper activities.
I persisted in asking what ChatGPT might offer visitors, and it provided me with suggestions such as the most affordable dining areas and establishments, places to bring your own food to avoid alcohol markups, and places to drink Québec City’s tap water because of its great water quality.
While AI won’t provide you with all the answers, it will provide ideas for saving money both before and during your trip. To get answers to your inquiries about money and Montreal while you’re on the road, you may even download the ChatGPT app.
Unless you turn off your chat history, it will be used to train the AI model to offer better responses in the future (but OpenAI still keeps it for 30 days). Reputable budgeting applications are far more secure and could currently provide superior solutions than AI. (Disclosure: In April, Ziff Davis, the parent company of CNET, sued OpenAI, claiming that the latter violated its copyrights by using its AI systems for training and operation.)
