Greek mythology states that Rhodes was founded when the sun god Helios fell in love with a nymph named Rhodes, who, when exposed to his sunshine, changed into an island. This Island of the Sun is true to its name, with award-winning blue-flag beaches, 300 days of sunlight annually, and an intriguing winemaking past.
Beyond cheap beach vacations, it offers spa-centered getaways, luxury hotels with a focus on design, and historic boutique hotels tucked away in its Unesco-listed old town, which is not only one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe but was once home to the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the size of the Statue of Liberty.
1. Rhodes Old Town’s Ancient Knights Luxury Suites
The medieval Knights of Rhodes, also called the Order of St. John, were the original builders of this unique structure in the center of the ancient town. Today, it is a posh boutique hotel with a minimalist décor that highlights the building’s historic elements, such as exposed stones and wooden beams. The eight en suite rooms are all decorated in a same minimalist style, and visitors are given a free bottle of wine when they arrive. Only a short distance away are historic sites like the Grand Master’s Palace and the clock tower.
2. Kalithea’s Eden Roc Resort
The Eden Roc brand is well known for its minimalist, California-inspired interior design. With bigger bungalows, saltwater pools with slides, and a kids’ club, their five-star beachfront hotel in Rhodes, which is situated between Rhodes Town and Kalithea, offers the same while yet being family-friendly. With tennis and basketball courts as well as regular yoga, dance, and fitness workshops, they have decided to prioritize sports over a spa. Additionally, there are eight upscale eating options available. Additional benefits include branded alcohol as part of the all-inclusive package and supper at a nearby restaurant.
3. Kolymbia, Kolymbia Cook’s Club
This adults-only, four-star hotel, which is part of the island’s new wave of trendy lodgings, is marketed as a relaxed haven with a feel-good vibe. The three restaurants provide everything from vegan snacks to Asian street cuisine, and the 271 minimalist rooms are furnished with natural textures and materials. The Captain Cook bar, one of three on the premises, offers live DJs and an endless supply of beverages. There is also a gym for exercise if you can drag yourself away from the beach.
4. Rhodes Old Town’s 10GR Hotel and Wine Bar
This adults-only luxury boutique hotel, located right in the heart of Rhodes Old Town, offers 10 rooms and four suites that are part of a gourmet restaurant and wine bar, which eliminates the classic problem of needing to take a cab back to your hotel after a wild night out. The rooms, each with its own outdoor terrace, are arranged side by side in vibrant hues of red, blue, and yellow. The suites include jet-stream tubs, while the rooms themselves have hand-painted murals honoring Greeks who made their nation proud. The hotel can set up private winery excursions and tastings, and the tiny spa room offers massages and facials in addition to a hot tub and sauna. Yamas!
5. Faliraki’s Grecotel Luxme Dama Dama
Located on the well-known sand-and-pebble, kid-friendly Faliraki beach, this palm tree-studded luxury all-inclusive resort is named after the island’s native dama dama deer. It has a variety of bedrooms and bungalows grouped around a stunning 100-meter-long freshwater pool. Children under 12 stay free, and the rooms are a classic Grecian white with coral accents. Included is the Grecoland children’s club. Adult benefits include limitless alcohol, including high-end brands, and free exercise courses. An elegant all-around player.
6. Lachania Beach’s Atrium Prestige Thalasso Spa Resort & Villas
Atrium Prestige, a five-star resort spa located in the more sedate south, is all about water. It has a huge swirl of four swimming pools, is located on the seaside, and all 251 of its rooms have jet-stream tubs. Above all, the Thalasso spa, the only one of its type on the island, offers sea-based treatments in a candlelight treatment room, including coral-pink sand exfoliators, pearl facials, and algae wraps. Although there is an overwhelming selection of rooms and grades, we believe the Prestige Junior Bungalow suite with private infinity pool is the most value for the money. The sea views usually draw attention, although the rooms lack a little flair because of the outdated furnishings.
7. Rhodes Old Town’s Elakati Luxury Boutique Hotel
A charming three-star hotel in the historic center of Rhodes that never fails to impress. Eleven elegant coastal-themed rooms in this small high-rise have rustic accents like a metal bucket for the bathroom sink or a headboard composed of piled white stones, along with hints of raw wood. Benefits include eco-friendly beds and pillows made entirely of natural materials, a breakfast-only spread fit for Zeus, amusing wooden rental bikes, and a small roof patio that surpasses several five-star establishments with its hot tub and chic sunloungers on either side. Only visitors who are 16 years of age or older are permitted admission.
8. Vlycha’s Lindos Blu Luxury Hotel & Suites
Lindos Blu is a welcome change. This timber and stone five-star hotel, which appears to have been carved out of the rocky shoreline, embraces the arc of Vlycha Bay like an amphitheater and proudly displays its breathtaking views of the turquoise Aegean. With white drapes that fade to tie-dye blue and aqua accents, the Zen-like interiors echo the seascapes. All rooms have hydro-massage tubs as standard, but for extra luxury, you may upgrade to a villa or maisonette with a private pool and hot tub, or a deluxe superior double with a hot tub on the balcony. Since whippersnappers are not permitted at this adults-only retreat, leisure activities are designed for two people, such as tennis lessons and ayurvedic spa treatments.
9. Kiotari’s Mayia Exclusive Resort & Spa
This expansive, all-inclusive, hard-to-fault five-star hotel is the perfect place for adult travelers looking for a box-ticking bubble of luxury they never have to leave. The 250 modern rooms combine olive linens, white sheets, and light woods, while the architecture’s use of curves, bright open spaces, and high-sheen flooring evoke the Middle East. The majority have a view of the sea, but visitors may also enjoy a swim-up Junior Suite or a private house on the half-mile private beach with a grassy yard and pool. This place has a lot of entertainment options, including live bands, a nightclub, and workshops in yoga, Zumba, mixology, and cookery.
10. Rhodes Old Town, Kokkini Porta Rossa
Are you tired of big, glitzy hotels? This four-star, six-room hotel with a touch of old-soul charm is the remedy. The characteristic Ottoman balcony window over the front door sets the tone for the interior of the medieval mansion, which belonged to the knight who commanded the garrison manning the neighboring “Red Gate” at the entrance of Rhodes Old Town. This captivating boutique hotel is characterized by thick stone archways, mezzanine-level bedrooms, and an abundance of art pieces. The majority of the rooms include clawfoot bathtubs and a complimentary minibar. Our choice is the Orhan, which has a trickling water feature and leads onto a hidden courtyard.
